Charles Kearns

CK Pic#3Charles Kearns has more than 20 years of progressive leadership, operational, technical accounting and IT experience at public accounting firm and global publicly traded companies.

Charles provides leadership, business advisory and program management services on a re-occurring or as needed basis to supplement, mentor and execute the financial and business objectives at pre-IPO and mid cap publicly traded companies.  His specialization is the Opportunity to Cash process, from billings and A/R to US GAAP & IFRS revenue recognition, deal desk, working capital management, revenue close process improvements, and the selection, design and implementation of revenue automation solutions.

Prior to becoming the Managing Partner of O2C Advisors, Charles spent 6 years at BlackBerry. He worked in various senior management roles with his last position being the Interim Corporate Controller.  As the Senior Director, Accounting, he was accountable for leading a global team of 60 plus professionals to address many complex technical accounting and operational matters such as the adoption of new FASB pronouncements, the launch of multiple products and services through new sales & marketing channels  into 175 countries with 30 plus currencies, and more than a dozen acquisitions and divestitures.  He was also a key business partner supporting 40 plus cross-functional strategic, operational and IT initiatives that were instrumental in growing the Company’s revenues from $6B to $20B in a 4-year timeframe.

Previous to BlackBerry, Charles held several finance and management positions focusing on revenue recognition, technical accounting, external financial reporting, SOX 404/C-198 compliance and international financing arrangements with IBM, Cognos, Alcatel-Lucent, Nortel and Mitel.  He started his accounting and audit career with E&Y LLP.  His public accounting and industry experience has been across a wide spectrum of industries including Laser and Photonics Technology, Software, Mobile e-Commerce Platforms, Fiber Optic Networks, Telecommunications, Manufacturing, Construction, Public Sector and Financial Services.

Charles obtained his Bachelor of Commerce, Accounting with High Honors from Carleton University in Ottawa, Ontario and his Certified Public Accountant and Chartered Global Management Accountant designations in Boston, Massachusetts.

Charles is a current member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants and the State of New Hampshire Board of Accountancy.
